I’m a fan of Chappelle, but didn’t have a chance to watch this special until after all of the outrage. Although I didn’t research any of the specifics of the outrage, only saw things in passing until I could watch.
So I made some time and sat down to watch it. I laughed the entire way through, as I do through all of his work.
Chappelle made me hold my breath as he said some of the ‘controversial’ jokes but I expect that. I want to hurt from laughing, I want a comedian to tell me their opinion on an issue and make me question my opinion/thoughts or even help me form an opinion on an issue I know nothing about.
Chappelle ticked all of the boxes for me, as does another ‘controversial’ comedian I enjoy watching/listening to, Ricky Gervais.
Chappelle is aware of real world issues and is smart enough to question the issues and then form his own opinion. From there he makes an articulate case/joke about his opinion on the issue. He’s not saying he’s correct, but this is how he sees things. Listen, laugh, be outraged, question your beliefs…Whatever you take from this, it’s yours, but be aware that every single person will have their unique spin.
But to chastise the man for being him and actually being informed on a situation to be able to form his own opinion is evidence our culture the world over, is rotting.
Soon, comedians will be forced underground, if controversial, and we’ll all die bored…
Thanks for the great breakdown!
